Mountain passes, icy roads part of the job for Converge global worker

Elizabeth (name changed for security purposes) couldn’t wait to try her new four-wheel drive two months ago.

So, she got up before sunrise to load the vehicle. Her trip started in a city, but she hoped to reach a community on the other side of the mountains. Reaching that valley required travel through a cold, snowy mountain pass.

In this rural region of distant Asia, there are no work crews clearing the mountainous roads of snow and ice. So Elizabeth traveled with six or seven cars, a caravan of necessity.

The risk is clear, but her trip is essential: this nation’s people have little access to the gospel. Hardships for Christ’s work come with Converge’s commitment to asking God for a gospel movement among every least-reached people group in our generation.

Related: Many of the least-reached haven't heard about Jesus' first coming, much less his second.

Outside Elizabeth’s vehicle, it’s below freezing. Across this nation, the light of the world seldom shines because so few people have heard about Jesus’ first coming.

But inside her new four-wheel drive are 100 copies of stories about Jesus. Elizabeth printed these with help from locals who know the language and the culture.

Their printing ministry in this Asian country creates and distributes stories of Christ. These evangelistic tools make it possible for least-reached people to hear about Jesus in their language. That’s why disciples are making disciples here, even though locals have little access to the Scriptures.

Once Elizabeth arrived in the valley, the few local church members joined her team. Together, they celebrated the release of the New Testament and Psalms in local dialects.

Elizabeth said that church planting and disciple-making are difficult without God’s word. But God is spreading the knowledge of his Son from one believer to another as they share these stories of Jesus.

That’s why Elizabeth faced the cold, the snow and the rugged mountainous travel. How beautiful are the feet — and the four-wheel drives — of those who bring good news.

Converge is asking God for a gospel movement among every least-reached people group — in our generation. Learn how we are playing a role in accomplishing the Great Commission and how you can be involved.
