Have you ever wanted to help your pastor know God more or love his family better? What about helping the church love its neighbors?
Many believers and pastors in Egypt also desire that. Pastors can attend conferences but feel empty afterward. They may have numerous people attend church services on Sundays yet struggle to generate a disciple-making ministry.
“There’s a lack of discipleship for the ministers themselves,” said Pastor Kamal in a recent conversation with Ashraf I*, a Converge global worker asking God for a gospel movement in Egypt.
Pastor Kamal said some ministers believe success is completing building projects, getting asked to speak at events or counting people on Sundays.
The two pastors agree that Egyptian pastors need unique training and transformation. This helps them strengthen their bond with God, build healthy family ties and create a lasting legacy of service for future generations.
Ashraf started Gideon’s 300, referring to the biblical man who only had 300 soldiers but trusted God for victory. He will serve 300 Egyptian pastors, particularly those 20-45 years old, to know and trust God as Gideon did.

The ultimate goal is seeing God answer prayers for a gospel movement in this least-reached nation.
“This is looking for a real revival in Egypt,” he said of the Gideon’s 300 effort. “It wouldn’t be done without the leaders, the pastors, the full-time ministers.”
Ashraf plans to visit those leaders in February and continue training them to have a strong relationship with God, a biblical family and an evangelistic ministry.

Egypt’s dominant Islamic worldview affects even the country’s Christians. Church leaders believe in Jesus yet struggle to live faithfully because of deeply ingrained cultural perspectives on God, women, money and other topics.
“Culture wins,” Ashraf added. “The culture we live in is how we grew up.”
But that dynamic is not just a factor in Egypt. Those influences affect nearly every pastor worldwide, regardless of a particular country’s worldview, religion or values.

Ashraf’s trip to two regions of Egypt will include 150 pastors in each location. Each trip will encourage and transform pastors so they know God deeply and obey him in their lives and ministries.
Ashraf explained that this has massive potential for Egypt, just as equipped, godly pastors do in every community and culture.
“This is not just about pastors,” he said. “About 60,000 people will feel the change that happened to their pastors.”
