Several graduate counseling students deeply encountered God’s heart for the nations at Converge’s Missionary Discovery and Assessment last month.

Converge assessors and consultants interacted with 10 Liberty University students for three-and-a-half days in June.

“It was a week of self-discovery in two ways: them understanding more about God’s heart for the nations and God’s heart for them as well,” Converge International Ministries director of Mobilization Tania Martin said.

The assessors recommended seven candidates to become global workers in the future should they pursue missions work. Another student needs to do long-term training before being prepared to consider long-term cross-cultural service. The remaining two students were encouraged to undertake extensive next steps and do the assessment again should they desire to minister overseas.

This is the second time Liberty students have gone through an assessment specifically for them. Two Liberty professors also attended as Converge leaders reflected alongside the potential global workers.

Both organizations value the partnership since students gain insights about themselves and deepen their awareness of God’s identity and priorities. Every Liberty student who completes the assessment could potentially be a global worker, counselor to missionaries or future member care worker.

Member care teams are one of Converge’s distinct strengths. These individuals serve the movement’s global workers by being available for prayer, emotional care and relational support.

Martin added that these Liberty students could also offer affordable or pro bono counseling to global workers after they experience traumas and crises.

Martin and other Converge staff involved in mobilization are thankful and excited about the Liberty partnership. Including more Liberty students in future assessments is being considered so the two entities can deepen their work together and generate more eternal impacts.

“You can really see God at work in their lives,” Martin said of the students. “What can happen in three and a half days? A lot can happen.”

Converge is asking God for a gospel movement among every least-reached people group – in our generation. Learn how we are playing a role in accomplishing the Great Commission and how you can be involved.
