He went from giving up to giving back

Elio was ready to quit.

Playing the guitar proved to be a significant challenge. Maybe, the young Albanian thought, he should just quit trying to become a worship leader.

But Arben Xhako, who started Selah Worship Arts Ministries in Tirana, Albania, told the young man not to give up. Xhako said he’d spend more time with Elio so he could succeed as a worship leader.

Since then, Elio has made so much progress and worked so hard that he’s now teaching young people at his church to be worship leaders. Elio’s transformation and multiplication reflect Converge International Ministries’ priority on developing leaders.

“This change must start with young people,” Elio said. “When you teach them, they will pass it from generation to generation, and it will develop into something more.”

Xhako and Converge global worker Ted Bukowski collaborate on the worship training ministry. They want Albania to have more and more disciples who worship and teach others to do the same.

“We’re going to train the trainers,” said Xhako. “We believe this ministry is to call light, love and hope for people here.”

Bukowski, who moved to Albania with his wife, Nita, affirms the church planting and evangelism done by a prior generation of missionaries. Now, he sees a new generation of ministry where global workers and national leaders work together to make disciples.

“What we hope to accomplish is teaching the church in Albania the power of worship as a tool to be used against the enemy,” he said. “Hopefully, with the help of our ministry and others, the church can see we are victorious and have hope.”

Elio has hope as he’s become more and more victorious in Christ. Xhako’s encouragement when the young man was discouraged worked: Elio leads worship to make disciples who make disciples.

Rather than quit, he’s embraced the will of God.

“We are people of God, and we must lead people to worship God,” Elio said. “Let us be those people who are ready and take that responsibility.”

Converge International Ministries is praying for a gospel movement among every least-reached people group – in our generation. Learn how Converge can help your church reach the nations with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.
