Isan Project
Thailand is home to 70 million people. Thai people are primarily Buddhist, 94%, compared to less than 1% evangelical Christian. However, even though less than 1% of them are Christian, God is moving. The number of Christians is growing each year.
Our goal is to see a gospel movement started among the Thai people. To see this become a reality we are working with local Thai Christians to encourage and equip them to share the gospel, disciple believers, and plant churches.
We are engaged mostly with church planting and leadership development. What that looks like is helping to facilitate the training of lay leaders in local churches. We have a Thai pastor (Pastor Paisan) that we partner with in this work. We come alongside him and the local churches to help them share the gospel and start house fellowships. These house fellowships, or cell groups as they call them, are small groups of believers or those interested in learning more about following Jesus. Besides getting together to read scripture and worship they are trained how to share their testimony, how to share the gospel, and how to pray for people. They are also trained in the markers of a healthy church so that as a group they can be intentionally taking steps towards becoming a church themselves.
Since starting a couple years ago, we have really seen God bless this ministry. The roots have grown outward with groups meeting now in 10 different provinces. This is amazing, and it is only because of God. This year we are focused on helping the roots grow down. This is where leadership development comes in, which is the emphasis for this year. We want to identify and develop the key leaders in each of these regions. The first goal is to help them grow as disciples themselves. The second goal is to help them identify potential leaders around them that God is calling them to develop. We are excited to see how God will lead us in this season and the fruit that will come of it.

The People & Place
The Isan people are an ethno-regional group native to Northeastern Thailand with an estimated population of about 22 million. Isan’s culture is predominantly Lao. The two countries have a lot in common. Only separated by a line on a map, the region share a similar cuisine, dress, temple architecture, festivals and arts.
