How the Bible and ‘simple people’ are changing lives

Ben Greene

A group of Christian moms brought a woman out of isolation. Together, they are helping to raise a generation that will make an eternal impact.

This is the fourth story in a four-part series about Converge’s ministry to mothers in Albania. Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3

Hana* (name changed for security purposes) often felt isolated as other Albanians responded to her with a simple “Hi” in particular gatherings — and total rejection at other times and places.

She expected more of the same the first time she attended an event for Christians. But that group of Christian moms connected to a Converge global worker now makes a difference in Hana’s heart.

“With these four people, I have the most good relationship,” Hana said about Converge global worker Nita Bukowski and other mothers in Albania. “I really trust them, I’m really free, I feel very safe to talk.”

Converge’s International Ministries team has prioritized a gospel movement among the least-reached people of Albania and many other nations for one reason: 70,000 people will die today, never once having any chance to hear a credible presentation of the gospel.

“This is the greatest injustice in the world today,” said Ivan Veldhuizen, senior vice president of Converge International Ministries.

For Hana and other Albanians, Converge churches and individual partners who pray and give are overturning that darkness and transforming lives.

“God has used the Bible and simple people, just one person, to do a change,” Hana said.

Lulieta*, another mom who follows Christ in the Muslim-majority nation, said Jesus has proven himself a hero. She’s confident that the gospel’s impact can continue to increase in her country.

“I understand more and more that God loves me and helps me to understand what is the truth,” she said. “We are growing up a generation that is going to influence others.”
