Families turn from headhunting to soul hunting in remote territory

Decades of discipleship have so transformed the grandchildren of tribal headhunters in a remote, unreached Asian country that they now want their former enemies saved.

Mark Boggess, who serves on Converge's Asia Impact Team, said God's grace through Christ completely changed this people group from headhunters to 'soul hunters.'

"Those grandkids today, they're completely converted," Boggess said. "We're working with this tribal group because they're strategically nestled in a remote region of their country where there are many unreached people groups."

Nearly 60% of the world's population and most of the earth's unreached people live in Asia. This region where Mark and his Asia Impact teammates are working has few believers because of remote communities and various forms of persecution. Christ's followers here end up in harm's way for trying to make disciples.

"I'm always amazed when I see somebody make that decision," Boggess said. "They've already counted the cost — and the cost is that they are likely to face severe persecution.”

Still, God is mighty to transform lives. So, the Asia Impact Team is helping to build up these soul hunters so they can spread the knowledge of the Lord among various tribes near them.

A NASA engineer discovers his work starts conversations everywhere

Boggess joined the Asia Impact Team in 2019. Since then, the former NASA engineer and global worker has been working to serve pastors and church leaders. Boggess has focused on two countries because they include most of Asia's unreached people groups.

His NASA career opens doors for relationships when Boggess travels to serve pastors and elders.

"All you have to say is ‘NASA,’ and they know what that is," he said of people in rural villages. "I had no idea that NASA was so internationally known."

The educator at heart longs for something better to be known worldwide. Every morning, he makes a similar request to God Almighty, praying:

"Lord, would you spark a gospel movement among every least-reached people group, and would you use me as an instrument of your salvation to help make that happen?"

Converge International Ministries is asking God for a gospel movement among every least-reached people group—in our generation.
