Converge Staff Jim Eaton, Rod Hairston

At the core of the Converge Biblical Diversity team’s work is the belief that the gospel of Jesus Christ is for everyone, regardless of race, culture or background. This conviction drives their commitment to embracing diversity — not as a peripheral issue — but as central to the gospel and the identity of all Christ-followers. Pastor Rod Hairston, co-director of the Biblical Diversity team alongside pastor Jim Eaton, often articulates this by stating, "If we can’t have the language to address the needs of our day, we lose credibility and fail to preach a gospel that is whole and capable of reaching anyone who walks the planet."

The Converge Biblical Diversity team is spearheading a vital mission: uniting churches and communities around God’s heart on cultural and social issues. Under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Michael L. Henderson, Vice President of Converge National Ministries, and Converge President John K. Jenkins, the team is committed to advancing a movement that reflects the rich diversity of the body of Christ and embodies God’s love for all humanity.

The leaders of this initiative, pastor Rod Hairston and pastor Jim Eaton, bring a wealth of experience and a shared passion for biblical diversity, each offering unique perspectives shaped by their personal and professional journeys.

About pastor Rod HairstonPastor Rod Hairston

Pastor Rod Hairston serves as the senior pastor of Messiah Community Church in Reisterstown, MD. With nearly two decades of experience, he has developed a deep passion for diversity within the local church. His extensive leadership roles in ministry, business, collegiate sports and the NFL have shaped his advocacy for understanding and embracing cultural diversity through a biblical lens. Pastor Rod emphasizes that the gospel challenges believers to broaden their horizons, appreciate new cultural contexts and view race and culture through the eyes of Christ. He believes that a gospel confined to one’s own culture is a limited gospel. His commitment to addressing issues of race, culture and oppression with authenticity and frequency reflects his dedication to advancing the kingdom of God in a way that includes and empowers everyone.

About pastor Jim Eaton

Pastor Jim Eaton

Pastor Jim Eaton shares a deep commitment to biblical diversity, drawing on nearly three decades of experience in church planting across South Africa, Germany and the Washington, D.C. area. His work has provided him with firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities of leading a diverse congregation. His vision is to influence the entire culture of the Converge movement, ensuring that every part of it reflects the beauty of a diverse world. Pastor Jim believes that embracing biblical diversity is crucial for the growth and vitality of the church, especially for future generations.

Moving Forward: A Collaborative Effort

As the gospel advances in a society that continually changes due to migration, cultural shifts and the next generation's perspectives transforming communities, it's our shared responsibility to ensure that Converge remains relevant, welcoming and equipped to minister to everyone.

As the Biblical Diversity team continues to develop strategies and resources, they encourage active engagement from the broader Converge community. Collaboration will be essential in ensuring that the movement reflects the rich diversity of the body of Christ. By sharing experiences, participating in conversations and reaching out with stories that challenge and inspire, the community can help deepen the collective understanding of what it means to be the body of Christ in a diverse world.

The team is optimistic about the transformative impact that a focus on biblical diversity will have on Converge and beyond, as they strive to fulfill their mission of unity and inclusivity within the church.
