B* and K* (names withheld for security purposes) flew from their Indiana home through Miami, the Middle East and then the first Spice Island in the Far East before traveling again to their new home in Southeast Asia.
They willingly took the multiday trip to join Converge’s Spice Islands Initiative. Their new team eagerly shares the gospel because in large cities of millions and small rural tribal areas, the Spice Islands are home to many unreached people groups. They are among the millions in Asia who have never heard of Jesus.
While Christians look forward to Jesus’ return, these unreached people know nothing about his first coming.
“We felt really drawn to (Converge International Ministries’ vision of) seeing a gospel movement among every least-reached people group in our generation,” B said. “If the goal is to see Jesus come back, why are we not doing everything we can to make that happen?”
“Converge prioritizes such peoples because 70,000 people die every day without a chance to hear a credible gospel presentation,” said Ivan Veldhuizen, Converge’s senior vice president of International Ministries. That is the greatest injustice in the world today.”
K and her husband sensed the Lord wanted them overseas within five years of marriage. They celebrate that anniversary in August 2023, one of many confirmations from the Lord that they are exactly where he wants them to be.
The couple employs indigenous people in a small business founded by their teammates. As those employees encounter Christ through relationships with believers, Christ transforms them so they can take the gospel to the many unreached people groups of the Spice Islands.
“If we can build up leaders and send them there, they are going to be the ones who start gospel movements,” B said.
God is raising up workers for this harvest field, particularly next summer when several interns will join the Spice Islands team. Is there someone in your church whom God might be calling to the nations? Encourage them to connect with Converge about our many opportunities for them to explore that calling.
