Celebrate Recovery sweeping Estonia

Celebrate Recovery Tallinn, Estonia

Alcoholism is at epidemic proportions in Estonia. Bill Ankerberg, Nordic-Baltic regional director, along with Converge missionaries and churches have been working to start a growing movement to bring the hope and help of Christ to people in the region. Recently New Covenant Church in Fresno, California, with funding from Whittier Area Community Church, sent a team to conduct a Celebrate Recovery Conference.

Sixty people registered for this first-ever CR conference, held at Kalju (Rock Baptist Church in Tallinn). Pastor Erki Tamm reports 55 to 57 people participated, representing denominations including Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, Advent and Free Church. There were also churches that had already completed the program and those looking to begin.

Ankerberg says three years ago there weren't any programs for alcoholics. Now dozens of churches have CR groups or are in the process of starting groups with the help of resourcing from Converge.

Pastor Tamm thanked Converge and asked for continued prayer for CR work. He said: "We at Kalju are continuing to be the resource church for CR in Estonia. We have started with three stepstudy groups ourselves this year. This year is different because we are equipping more new leaders and other churches to continue CR work at Kalju and other places. New leaders are stepping up, and previous leaders are supporting them to take on the challenge of becoming a CR leader."
