Hui Initiative

International MinistriesAsia

We are looking to God for an unstoppable and sustainable Gospel movement where the Hui people would meet, know and follow Jesus in Kingdom communities.

Support Hui Initiative

14 million Hui, and only 0.01% have been reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There are only 400 known believers. This Hui Unreached-People-Group (UPG) needs a mighty move of the Holy Spirit to come upon them, a movement that begins in their midst and in our generation. We want to see reproducible Christ-following communities planted amongst the Hui people-group with Hui Christ-followers reaching their own people.

Goals

  • To start a gospel movement among this people group in our generation, with Hui Christ-followers following Jesus in Kingdom communities by 2030.
  • To mobilize 10 churches and agencies in East Asia, USA and Asia to pray for the Hui people-group, and to see workers sent to Hui communities.
  • To develop partnerships with like-minded churches, resource agencies, sending agencies and financial partners to establish long-term relationships with Hui communities that can inspire and lead to gospel movements.
  • To mobilize, train and send workers from house churches in East Asia to 15 Hui-concentration areas in the Northwest and Southwest by 2030.

The Place

The Hui are found throughout East Asia, with concentrations in the Northwest and Southwest of the country. Those in the Northwest are concentrated in four provinces where the Silk Road runs through desert regions. The second largest mosque in East Asia is found in the Southwest province. This is also the place where Hui teenagers are trained and sent as future Imams throughout the whole province.

The People

The Hui (pronounced “h-way”) is the largest Muslim ethnic minority group in East Asia that numbers over 14 million. Officially, they are recognized as part of the 5 ethnic groups symbolized in the 5 stars on the national flag. Many are direct descendants of Persian and Arab traders on the Silk Road who brought Islam into East Asia. They look and speak Chinese, the official language of the land. Hui communities are found throughout East Asia, with concentrations in the Northwest and Southwest of the country. To be Hui is to be Muslim. Islam is foundational in the Hui culture. Despite the strong Buddhist influence around them, they adhere strictly to their Islamic faith and follow Islamic dietary laws that reject the consumption of pork, the most common meat eaten in East Asia. You can recognize the Hui men by their white prayer caps and the women by their head scarves. However, with the modernization of East Asia, many young Hui forgo the wearing of the headgear to blend in with the mainstream.

The Impact

Very few Christians (including those from the local church) are intentionally going to the Hui to tell them about Christ. It is estimated that every five minutes one Hui person dies. The Hui are in desperate need of more laborers to boldly proclaim the gospel and reap the harvest that God has prepared. We have a Three-Pronged Strategy for our ministry to the Hui people. 1) We directly engage with the Hui people in our city and surrounding county-cities. We build relationships with them to seek out Persons of Peace in their midst, and are currently doing Discovery Bible Studies with an elderly woman and a young Hui restaurant owner. 2) We mobilize, train, send and mentor national workers to reach Hui communities. This we do through imparting a vision and burden of reaching the Hui people to the national church; and training workers that are mobilized. We currently are mentoring 5 couples in three different locations to reach the Hui people. One of the couples oversee a team of workers in three different neighbouring locations. 3) We run community projects. We have provided scholarships to Hui high-school students in a nearby county-city; and have run medical health-screen projects in county cities. We currently have the Green Dorm Project where we provide lodging for Hui cancer patients when they come to our city for needed treatments and tests—allowing us to engage the Hui people in spiritual conversations that lead to sharing the gospel and their knowing Christ.

Available Opportunities

Whether you are interested in taking part in a 1-2 week church-based trip or serve in the field for several months or years, there are opportunities for you to impact individuals, communities and regions around the world. Connecting sending churches

When it comes to global missions work, a team will always accomplish more than an individual. To make a greater impact than it could on its own, your church can be a part of a network of churches, called a consortium, to share in the work of the Great Commission.

What does a consortium do?

  • Joins with Converge missionaries to undertake missionary efforts beyond the resources of any one member.
  • Promotes intercessory prayer for Hui initiative and its missionaries.
  • Deploys resources to assist the Hui initiative and its missionaries in ministry.

The consortium is led by a team of high-capacity leaders who work in close collaboration with the Hui initiative leaders and our project teams.

As we connect with your church and its consortium, God unleashes his people in incredible fruitful ways.

  • Prayer movements begin.
  • Church volunteers are equipped to serve, train and engage in new ways.
  • The Holy Spirit unites diverse spiritual gifts beyond the ability of any single church.

Are you ready to work with churches from across the country to build a network committed to reaching people? Contact us to learn how you can support the Hui initiative by joining a consortium today.

Let's connect

We are asking God for a gospel movement among every least-reached people group in our generation, so everything we do is about building and maintaining strong relationships. Communication is key. So, let’s connect. If you would like to learn more about this ministry or how we can partner together, or if you have a general question, please reach out.
