My Calling to Missions

If you’d like to read the full story of how God brought me from a Chinese orphanage to faith in Christ, please see my personal testimony here.

I grew up in an orphanage in China with many children, most of whom had special needs or disabilities. I was adopted into a Christian family in Oregon just before aging out of the system. Although my parents brought me to church faithfully, I remained spiritually distant for years until God drew me to Himself during graduate school – and ultimately through a season of deep family brokenness. In January 2024, I surrendered my life to Jesus.

How God Confirmed My Calling

Only a few months later, in July 2025, I joined my first missionary trip to Taiwan. Serving alongside over 100 believers from around the world, I participated in street evangelism, preaching, and small-group Bible studies. When I witnessed a young woman rededicate her life to Christ, something ignited in me—I tasted the joy of heaven over one sinner who repents. That moment clarified God’s call on my life.

Why Japan?

Japan is one of the largest unreached nations on earth. With a population of over 123 million, only 1-2% identify as Christian—meaning more than 120 million people have little to no access to the Gospel. The spiritual landscape is shaped by centuries of Shintoism, Buddhism, and cultural self-reliance that leave many feeling isolated yet resistant to outside faith. Japan has one of the highest suicide rates among developed nations, and its youth face intense academic and social pressure with few places to turn for hope. The need for workers is urgent: Jesus said the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few (Matthew 9:37).

As a Chinese believer, I am deeply aware of the historical wounds between our nations – the atrocities of the past have left lasting pain across Asia. Yet the Gospel compels me toward Japan, not away from it. Scripture calls us to “forgive as the Lord forgave you” (Colossians 3:13), and Jesus taught that those who have been forgiven much, love much (Luke 7:47). Without vertical forgiveness from God, horizontal forgiveness between peoples remains futile. Because I have been forgiven an unpayable debt, I can extend grace to others – and I long for the Japanese people to know this same forgiveness that reconciles us both to God and to one another.

Where God is Leading Me Next

This summer 2026, I will serve with Converge’s [IM]PACT Internship in Japan – a nation God has placed on my heart for years. I will be involved in evangelism, discipleship, and cross-cultural ministry, while receiving training for long-term missions work. I also hope to use my software engineering background as a vocational “tentmaking” pathway for ministry.

By God’s grace, my background bridging Chinese and American cultures and speaking native Mandarin may serve His purposes in reaching Asia’s unreached peoples. My long-term desire is to serve as a missionary and make disciples of all nations for God’s glory.
