“You need to write a missions study for churches!”

That was the recurring encouragement I received when I announced my transition from 28 years of pastoring in the Midwest, the last 16 with a vibrant congregation in a Minneapolis suburb, to leading missions for our Converge denomination. The two primary reasons for those comments:

• The church understood my heart and passion for the lost, including those among the least-reached peoples of the world.
• Some of the most spiritually transformative moments in our church came through the companion booklets and small group guides I created to deepen engagement with my Sunday teachings.

Now, 14 years later, Far Off Saints is that missions study for churches!

This four-week study is designed to ignite hearts and minds for global missions. It includes:

• Sermon resources for pastors to lead an all-church experience.
• Daily bite-sized readings exploring major themes of missions.
• QR links to additional resources for deeper learning.
• Small group guides for each week of the study.
• Four video teaching sessions, QR-linked, to complement small group discussions.

Writing Far Off Saints was hard work, but I loved it. During the nine years it took to complete, I consistently felt the Holy Spirit guiding me. Each new section felt like a spiritual encounter; my heart would race, my adrenaline would kick in, my breathing changed and my fingers picked up speed on the keyboard as I followed God’s lead in crafting this study.
