United in Prayer: Day 7

Converge

For much of our Christian lives, it can feel like we are constantly searching for the giftings God has given us. We have a desire to please God and to partner alongside him to accomplish his mission in this world. To do this, God has equipped each of us with different giftings.

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Matthew 9:35-38

For much of our Christian lives, it can feel like we are constantly searching for the giftings God has given us. We have a desire to please God and to partner alongside him to accomplish his mission in this world. To do this, God has equipped each of us with different giftings. As Scripture tells us, some are called to teach the bible, some are called to be hospitable, some are called to plant churches, and the list goes on and on!

We are given these giftings so that we can better be equipped to show God’s love across every facet of life where we might encounter others. But, not all callings and giftings are created equal. While every single one of them is important, the call to plant a church has unique challenges. It requires a skill set and personality different from other ministry roles (Isa. 6:8; Mark 1:16-20). But, it can be discouraging. The long hours of work. The daily stress of trying to create enough momentum to start a church. It’s not for the faint of heart.

But, one thing is true. If we want to reach the least-reached people groups on the planet, all of us need to step into the giftings God has given us! As we ready ourselves to pray, ask God to stir up the gifting in yourself. Consider how God may want you to show compassion on those around you who are feeling “harassed and helpless.” Pray for God to stir up the hearts of those whom he has gifted in planting new churches which are the most effective means we have of reaching lost people with the gospel!

Prayer for Starting Churches:
Gentle Shepherd, we are so grateful that you came to earth and sought out those who were in need of healing – physical, emotional and spiritual. You sought us! And as churches are planted in new communities, we know there are many people there who need what only you can offer.
