Greetings from cold Cambridge, Minnesota! We are on Home Assignment until next summer, when we return to Japan for another 4-year term. We already have 10 inches of snow and are enjoying worshiping with our partnering churches! We are looking forward to celebrating Christmas in America with all of our kids coming “home.” The last time we were all together for Christmas was when Anna, now 18, was 8 years old. We are excited and are thanking God for the chance to be together for about 50 hours. We are all very excited!
We are praising God for sending Jesus to bear the penalty of our sin. There is nothing more worthy of celebration that what God has done for us in Christ Jesus. Interestingly, this is reflected in the fact that, even in non-Christian countries, like Japan, the Christmas event provides an opportunity to share about the greatest gift mankind has ever received.
We are also praising God for all of you! Your faithfulness in prayer and financial support is a great encouragement to us and keeps us being just as faithful to share the message with everyone God puts in our path. Your encouraging email notes and cards give us a tremendous boost and are read and re-read over and over. Many times, as we have dealt with discouragement, we have been revived by the Lord through His Word in answer to your prayers for us.
Keihanna Church in Kyoto, Japan, where we served the last 4 years, is doing well. We will not be there to do our Family Christmas program, which usually draws more non-believers than any other event. However, everyone is pitching in to share the message of Jesus at this time of the year that more Japanese are open to it. We have already heard that a junior high age girl has joined the youth group we started this Christmas season.
This current Home Assignment ends this coming summer. We have been tremendously blessed by the people at churches we have already visited. It is always wonderful to find that people have been praying for our family and our ministry daily, weekly or monthly for many years! We trust you have been equally blessed by us as we share with you how God has answered your prayers. For the rest of you, we look forward to re-connecting with you sometime in the next few months.
As we look ahead, exciting things are happening in Converge Japan. We have a new Japan Initiative and a new leader of the Initiative, Brian Lusky. Brian is a good leader and excels at team and network building. The timing is perfect as we are being asked by our Japanese national partners to take the lead in a new project to evangelize an area of the city of Osaka. One thing high on the priority list is opening a pathway for you, our support team, to be more involved in direct ministry to the Japanese. Keep watching for updates on how God is going to accomplish this. Updates will be posted to our ministry page on the Converge website, so check Chapman Japan page regularly.
Praise God for bringing our whole family together for Christmas
Please pray for God to meet our support needs, as we need some one-time gifts to end the year fully funded.
Praise God for providing a leader for the Converge Japan Initiative, Brian Lusky
Pray for God to provide four new missionary families by 2022 to join the Converge Japan InitiatWe are embarking on new projects, which of course, require more funding. Pray for God to supply $2000 per month of additional support for the Osaka Project.
May you experience the love and joy of Jesus this Christmas!
