Converge Responds to North Korea Missile Threats

FROM OUR PRESIDENT:
Many of you have read about the recent military activity in North Korea, which has moved forward with developing ICBMs (intercontinental ballistic missiles). This technology, in addition to their pursuit of a full nuclear program, has resulted in condemnation by many world powers and strong United Nations sanctions. The North Korean government has not only ignored this condemnation from the rest of the world, it seems to have been emboldened to threaten military action, primarily against the United States, starting with the military bases on Guam.

In addition, many stories coming out of that country tell of the power-hungry dictator, the devaluing of life and the extreme actions in violation of human rights of ordinary people.

Tensions are high, tempers are flaring and leaders are posturing.

Our role as believers is clear. We are to turn to our God and ask for wisdom for all involved (James 1:5). We are to turn to him and ask for his intervention to turn the tide of this moment toward peace (Rom. 12:14). We are to ask him to remember the oppressed people of North Korea and to remove the power-hungry regime that has held them down for so long.

We are to pray for our leaders to respond with wisdom and sound judgment (1 Tim. 2:1-2). We are to pray for people around the world caught in fear, and that God would use this moment to turn them to faith in Christ (1 Peter 5:7). We are to live our lives in full dependence on the God who has all power, authority and wisdom and to trust him with all things. He is an ever-present help in times of trouble.   Psalm 46:1-3, 7, 9-10 tells us “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging…. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress…. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, ‘Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.’”
