Welcome to Converge MidAmerica Christ United Church
Director of Marketing
While Christ United Church may be small in numbers, it is large in reach.
Christ United is located in Richmond, IN and focuses on being a church beyond its walls. It was founded in 1990 as a church plant of the South Baptist Convention, and merged with a nondenominational church plant, Grace Chapel, twelve years ago. Brett Karanovich, the current pastor of Christ United, was the pastor of Grace Chapel at the time of the transition. He said that right as their church plant was starting to look for their own building, Christ United lost its pastor. Over several months of conversation and prayer, it was very clear that God wanted these two churches to merge. Karanovich emphasized that it was a seamless transition for them because God was in the whole process.
Today at Christ United, they aim to see “every person, genuinely connected, actively reaching, neighbors and nations.” This is more than just a vision statement, but a tangible goal that the church has been actively pursuing. The global impact of Christ United is seen in three key areas: local ministries, church planting and international missions.
In their local community of Richmond, IN, Christ United has launched Lifted Church and started two ministries: Mosaic Ministries and the Recovery Church. Outside of Richmond, they have started three other churches and ministries: Oasis Church in Lawrenceburg, IN, Crossroads Baptist in Eaton, OH, and A New Thing Ministries in Fountain City, IN. In addition to planting churches, Christ United leads a local chapter of the Liberty Church Network, where they rally pastors for monthly meetings to support, encourage and coach one another.
Outside the walls of the United States, Christ United is involved in international missions through The Timothy Initiative and the i3 Project in India. They encourage missionary work around the world and have sent out missionaries to a plethora of countries, including India, Brazil, Nepal, the Philippines, Haiti, Albania, Liberia and Kenya.
As Christ United moves forward, they want to continue spreading Christ’s love outside their church walls to a world in need. “We continue to press into individual discipleship and church planting as our primary focus,” said Karanovich. “We are planning on a micro-church model this fall and are currently working through the specifics of a building campaign for our own church.”
Christ United Church is already making waves in their community, so we are excited to watch them grow even more as a part of the Converge MidAmerica family.
