Story

I have known since I was 12 years old that I wanted to be a social worker and that I wanted my life and career to be about helping people in some way. This past December I graduated with my Bachelor of Social Work and will begin my Master of Social Work this coming fall. The verse that encapsulates this purpose in my life is Micah 6:8, “He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” The further I have gone in my social work studies, it has become more evident how I want to be involved with social work from a Christian perspective, in the intersection between social work and ministry. I want the way I live my life to be purposeful and focused on what truly matters, that more people know who Jesus is and respond to His love for them. This summer’s internship is an extension of this purpose, where I will be immersed in leadership training, discipleship, and service, as we come alongside the local ministry partners and minister to the children and adults of Togo and Benin. It’s important to me that I never just go overseas because it seems like it will be fun or because I want to cross a new place off my list. I want to go only if it is clear that I am supposed to, that I will be of use, and that God wants to use this trip to teach or grow me in some way. I am asking that you first pray for me as I prepare and while I am serving in these communities. I would also like to humbly ask you to consider financially supporting me during this internship. As I get this opportunity to join a ministry that is being the hands and feet of Jesus in so many different ways, I hope and pray that you will join me in this effort to love and serve in the name of Jesus.
