Youth Development Project

In conducting one to one conversations with parents in slum communities most indicate that the most critical turning point for their children is in the early years of secondary school. Twenty percent drop out of regular school by ninth grade and less than half finish the normal high school program. The need is in part economic, but perhaps even more it is bad influences, poor grades, and lack of constructive and supportive activities. It is also this age of youth that are the most open and available to Christian outreach. Looking ahead, a movement among low-income communities would need to be energized by a strong youth movement that was developing future leaders. Thus, there is a great opportunity to develop a strong youth development program that influences youth for Christ and develops future leaders.
