Trees for the Sahel

The number of trees in the Sahel region (band of Africa just south of the Sahara desert) is gradually decreasing. Villagers use trees for food, cooking wood, animal forage, and building materials. With hundreds of free-ranging sheep, goats, and chickens it is very difficult to protect saplings as they grow.

This project purchases material to make tree sapling protectors out of rebar and chicken wire. It also provides tools and materials for pruning village trees that can then be grafted to produce more and better fruit.
