Assam Flood Relief 2017

Assam, India, received nine inches of rain in 48 hours August 12-13. An estimated 2.3 million people across Assam and Arunachal States were affected by flooding. Many are in areas where Converge works and our national partners have ministered since 1946. The monsoon rains hit an area still recovering from July floods that killed 76 and drove 1.5 million people from their homes.

Chowam Daimari, general secretary of the North Bank Baptist Church Association, said, “About 2700 villages have been affected due to devastating flooding in Assam. It is reported that 670 relief camps have been established.” But key roads washed away by landslides and shortages of food and shelter are making their lives difficult. “Please consider some relief for them so that [we can] show them the love of our Lord at this time,” Daimari said. Converge works in partnership with NBBCA.

Converge World Relief made an initial disbursement of $2,000 to our partners in India to provide food, other needed supplies and the gospel to their countrymen. Please consider making a gift to meet this need. Or give to the World Relief general fund, which has been depleted by recent disbursements.
